3 Common Cleanse Symptoms to Expect

Cleansing is a great way to rid the body of toxins. For many people, doing a cleanse is the first step along the path to feeling healthy and revitalized.

However, because cleansing involves a big change in your usual habits, you can expect to experience some detox or cleanse symptoms while you are going through this process.

The following symptoms are completely normal and will quickly resolve themselves as the toxins leave your body.

Fatigue

cleanse-symptomsBecause you will be taking in fewer calories than usual during a cleanse, you will probably feel low on energy.

You might find it easier to cope with this feeling of fatigue if you start your cleanse at a weekend, so you do not have to go to work.

The fatigue associated with cleansing is only temporary. Once you rid your body of toxins and begin to reintroduce food, you will feel light and energized.

During the fast, you can drink raw juices to get some badly needed vitamins and minerals into your body and give you the energy you need to continue with the detox process.

Bloating

Bloating is a common side effect of cleansing. The toxins that have built up in your system as a result of years of poor eating habits cause your body to retain water, which leads to bloating. During a cleanse, these toxins are released from your glands at a rapid rate, which can make the bloating worse in the short term.

However, it is worth sticking to your cleansing plan: once the toxins are out of your system, you should feel a lot less bloated. Keep drinking plenty of fluids to flush out the toxins; staying well hydrated encourages your body not to hang onto excess water in your cells.

Headaches

For too long, your body has been relying on poor quality sources of energy, such as sugar and caffeine. When these noxious substances are removed, the body will initially go through a period of withdrawal, before it re-adjusts to extracting energy from the wholesome foods that nature intended humans to eat.

Expect to experience headaches as your body weans itself off its dependence on caffeine or sugar.

Headaches can make it difficult to concentrate, which is why you should start your cleanse on a non-work day.

On the first cleanse day, get plenty of rest and try not to do anything too mentally demanding. You should also drink plenty of fluids throughout the cleanse, as dehydration is a common and easily preventable cause of headaches.

If you are still suffering from headaches, heating pads and head massages can help to ease the pain.

Dealing With the Side Effects of Going Through a Cleanse

The side effects of cleansing can be difficult to deal with, but the results will be worth the short term discomfort and inconvenience. Cleansing removes all the toxins that have been slowly poisoning you and leaves you feeling revitalized and full of energy. Do not be discouraged if you have some side effects while cleansing; you will be feeling better in a few days time.
