Fasting is primarily the act of willingly abstaining from some or all food, drink, or both, for a period of time. An absolute fast is normally defined as abstinence from all food and liquid for a defined period, usually a single day (24 hours), or several days. Other fasts may be only partially restrictive, limiting particular foods or substance. The fast may also be intermittent in nature. Fasting practices may preclude sexual intercourse and other activities as well as food.
Ok, so notice the part that I bolded. The Master Cleanse is a fast because it is a liquid diet, or a mono diet. A diet that restricts or limits to a certain food or substance, and that being the Lemonade of the Lemonade Diet.
The Master Juice Fast
The Master Cleanse Juice Fast Diet is as Stanley Burroughs describes it “superior in every way to any other system because it dissolved and eliminates all types of fatty tissue. Fat melts away at the rate of about two pounds a day for most persons –and without any harmful side effects”. If your interested in Juice Fasting Weight Loss, then The Master Cleanse is the Juice Fast for you.
To learn more about The Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet, just explore this website, or the Roadmap, because I want to focus on OTHER Juice Fasts, namely the yummy recipes. In fact, many people ask about modifying The Master Cleanse, and that topic really gets the hard-liners in an uproar.
It is funny to me. People only want change until it’s made and then they don’t want change again. As if the latest solution is the pinnacle of achievement. Sure the original recipe is pretty awesome. But why can’t it be added to or improved on.
My good friend Peter Glickman calmly points out, that if you do adjust your recipe, just know you’re no longer doing The Master Cleanse, but rather you are now doing a brand new diet. While that seems obvious, it’s an intersting truth that I face while I try to describe the name of my next article, and my next cleanse.
You see, I want to cleanse, and I want to Juice Fast, but I don’t want to Master Cleanse that often. I last did The Master Cleanse 6 months ago, and I am not up for the challenge. So I am designing a new Juice Fast for myself.
What’s more, I want to regulate my blood sugar through Self Care/Health Management measuring devices and I know that Juice Fasting can cause spikes in insulin because of the amount of sugar consumed, as noted in this excerpt from the Wikipedia article on Juice Fasting
Juice Fasting is a type of fasting and “detox diet” in which a person consumes only fruit and vegetable juices. Being available only in digestible carbohydrates, these foods are digested rapidly. However, this leads to quicker spikes in serum glucose, as opposed to eating the fruits or vegetables whole, and the body does not burn as many calories to digest the juice, as the juice digestion process expends only a small amount of energy.
Juice Fast Recipes
Juice Fasting Recipes are as fun to make as any painting or song. The blending of colors and flavours is very fun and rewarding with the endless combinations of tastes at your disposal. One of my favorite sites to get Juice Fast recipes is at JuiceFeasting.com. Juice Feasting is a term that I believe was first coined by a very smart, and controversial writer named Steve Pavlina and tries to rephrase the concept from one of restriction to one of opportunity. There is truly a plethora of enjoyment in this type of fast, and why I am doing my Hybrid Master Cleanse more often.
Consider juicing the following:
- Vegetables – celery, cucumber, red bell pepper
- Greens – parsley, kale, beet greens, chard, spinach, dandelion leaf
- Cruciferous vegetables – broccoli, cabbage
- Root vegetables – carrots, beets, sweet potatoes
- Fruits – dark grapes, apples, lemon, Açai berry
- Herbs – yucca root, fennel, spearmint, peppermint, basil, ginger, garlic, green onion, chilli pepper, fresh turmeric root, milk thistle
- Wheatgrass juice, spirulina & aphanizomenon flos-aquae, blue-green algae
Here is a couple of my favorite recipes:
Berry Blast – These Berries will reduce your cravings for the unhealthy sweets.
- 1 Cup raspberries
- 1 Cup Strawberries
- 2 Oranges
- 2 Apples
Green Carrot Juice: Juice the cucumber with the skin on. Many fruits and veggie skins contain the most benefits, but watch out for the dirty dozen that you should by organic because their soft skin loves pesticides and other toxins.
- 1 Cup of spinach
- 1/2 Cucumber
- 2 Stalks of celery including leaves
- 3 Carrots
- 1/2 Apple
