I AM interested in fasting and cleansing, but the communities really don't make it easy to swallow.

For example, I read a PDF of the original Master Cleanse and came away with the idea that pure unsulpherated molasses would be a good option. Even though some passages seemed to contradict themselves on that part.

So I went to the store and compared Grade B Maple Syrup to pure Blackstrap unsulpherated Molasses and found that the Molasses had MORE vitamins and minerals than the Grade B Maple Syrup. It was on the back of both bottles, for goodness sake. What research do ya'll do before you make comments like, "Sorghum would be an inferior substitute and not provide anywhere near the benefits of Maple Syrup." Since "Sorghum" is generally used as a synonym for Molasses (although strictly speaking they aren't the same thing) and Molasses isn't mentioned aside from that.

What are the mysterious "benefits" of Maple Syrup?

And has anyone actually looked up the Nutrition Facts of a lemon to find out if these claims, "you get all the vitamins you need from the lemon" are anywhere close to true? If you think a minute amount of A, Calcium, and Potassium, and a big dose of C that you get from lemon juice are all the vitamins you need in a day...

It's just...geez. It seems to me that most of the information I find from proponents of these diets is *wrong* and a simple glance at a bottle in the store or at an encyclopedia finds ample evidence to contradict it. I am really interested, but how it could it fail to make make me concerned when I find misinformation everywhere?

Seriously, folks, don't get all your info from sites like these. I think they are filled with "urban myths" that get passed from person to person like they are facts, but they aren't necessarily.

The truth is doing a fast for 10 days, whether or not you get all your nutrients, isn't probably going to hurt (or help) you that much. It's only been relatively recently in human history that we've had the luxury of good nutrition. Our bodies can handle a little malnutrition and a little starvation.

I think it's far more important to do your own independent research and come up with a fast that works for you, rather than go looking for a magic bullet (there isn't one). Most of the people trying to sell them to you don't really know what they're talking about.

The first time I did the SWF I came VERY close to throwing up. I didn't think I could do it. The second time I used less salt, it was slightly more bearable but I didn't flush. Today I've started the MC diet properly and decided to just go for it.

I've noticed that if you drink up the SWF solution very quickly, without mixing it properly, its less vomit inducing. I also use a straw. Hope this helps.

you can do the peppermint tea, which is a natural flusher and tastes far better! but it does clean you out as well as the salt flush. it is horrible, i know!

I use "Smooth Move" herbal tea. I couldn't do the salt water either. Vomited every time. The Smooth Move name is deceiving. It contains Senna which can be uncomfortable to downright painful 6 - 10 hours later...but your bowels will move!

I began my 2nd MC today. I am going for 20 days, I am capable of doing it unless I can't take it. But I feel I can do it. I don't need to eat. lol.

I started the cleanse and had to stop because i cannot drink the salt water solution. I did one teaspoon and I thought I just about vomited all over the place.

Do I have to do this part? It there any way around it? Does anyone have any suggestions? I am doing this not to lose weight but to detoxify it that makes a difference.

Also, is it two teaspoons or two tablespoons in a quart of water?

My husband and I are doing the cleanse for the New Year and we are stationed in Japan. So we are limited in the type of maple syrup we can buy. I don't believe that the Japanese use Maple syrup at all and all we can find at the store on base is Grade A non-organic syrup, we this be good enough. I'm sure I can order some online, but I don't want to wait for it to get here :) Maybe I should order it and and use what we have until the good stuff gets here...what do you guys think?

I'm responding to the tags to my last post only because I feel the questions were directed only at me. I am certainly not an expert. i'm in no postition to give advice on the subject of cleansing at all.

1) I’m just starting out and I need help. I don’t have the Master Cleanse Book but I need to drop approximately 25-30lbs. Can you give me any pointers?

Cleanse for me was a great way to reset my system. I had great success with The Blueprint Cleanse (http://blueprintcleanse.com/). It's expensive, but they take out the guess work and when it comes to my body, I don't want to be guessing or depending on strangers on the internet for advice.

By letting go of my need to lose weight and placing the focus on changing the way I thought about food, I was able to lose about 40 lbs. I am 80% raw vegan now. I look and feel 10 years younger. I'm not "dieting" I eat what I want, when I want (even chocolate). I just prepare everything according to pretty strict guidelines. I came to raw food by first getting past my belief that I needed to eat a certain way to be happy. I did that through cleansing.

My advice: Get the book. Order it online through Amazon. It's The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs.

2) Which grade of Maple Syrup does the book suggest?

My advice: Please re-read my prior post and then get the book.

Enjoy the holidays!

Peace
