Need To Reduce Stress? 5 Things You Didn’t Think Would Work

The world can be a stressful place in which to live. There are countless deadlines, bills to pay, traffic to fight, kids to feed, spouses to love and the list goes on. All these things and more add to the stress in our lives. This makes it incredibly important to find the time to relax and reduce stress.

In fact, our health depends on it, since stress is often the cause of major illnesses.

Here are some tips to relax that one may not think would work, but can actually do wonders.

Classical Music

While some folks despise that kind of music, classical music helps the body slow down and unwind.

This can be especially helpful when driving a vehicle during rush hour traffic or when there is a disagreement in the home.

Beethoven, Bach, Brahmas, Mozart and other composers have numerous classical works that are sure to please folks as they seek to unwind after a stressful day.

As an added bonus, listening to classical music can temporarily make you smarter. It has not been proven that listening to Mozart can actually raise someone’s IQ, but some studies have shown that something known as the “Mozart effect” can briefly enhance our spatial reasoning.

A favorite book is a great way for the mind to think about something pleasing and that enables the body to relax.

Dr. David Lewis, a cognitive neuropsychologist who has done a study on the relationship between reading and relaxation, says, “The words on the page stimulate your creativity and cause you to enter what is essentially an altered state of consciousness.”

Meditate

Take time to meditate. Meditation takes the focus off worries and stress and puts it on something else while the person is in a quiet state of mind in prayerful devotion or peace. A quiet room or comfortable chairs are excellent places to meditate.

Jacuzzi


Spending time in a Jacuzzi is a great way for a person to relax. The hot water, jets, bubbles and more allow the human body to begin to unwind in a Jacuzzi. The humming jets, the steam in the air and much more all allow the body to release the stresses of the day. The result is the body is healthier and refreshed when the time in the Jacuzzi has ended.

Nap

Although some people overlook it, a nap can be a fantastic way for folks to get a quick amount of rest. A nap allows the body to repair itself as the mind shuts everything down. Naps can be taken practically anywhere from a home to a chair in a business office. Wherever the nap may be taken, it is good to have at least 15 minutes of uninterrupted rest.
