Another taste. Oranges are good.

Well, I actually started the day with a glass of Lemonade to get me going. I never seem to get enough calories on the orange juice day so this time around I decided to have a couple glasses of lemonade throughout the day.

I have had 3 cups of orange juice and 1 glass of lemonade, and as I write this I am hungry. I am going to go make another glass of lemonade and another cup of orange juice as soon as I am done this post.

[adrotate banner="8"]

I am planning for 3 cups of lemonade, and 5 cups of Orange Juice.

I am using 4 oranges to produce 1 cup of orange juice. The orange I bought (organic from whole foods), came in a bag of 12. I bought 2 bags, and today realized I would need more for the two of us. The bags of orange were $5 each.

Juicer Comparison

I currently have 2 different kinds of juicers here with me. I have a $1 plastic hand juicer, and $200 Breville Power Juicer – a centrifugal juicer style.

I did a very scientific experiment to see which would provide more juice. I juiced 5 oranges in each and yielded almost identical amounts of orange juice –around 2 cups.

Despite the power and promise of a better juicing experience, the $1 plastic hand juicer was more effective, easy to use and produced a better quality juice. The juice from the Breville Power Juicer was frothy, full of fiber and didn’t taste as, well, authentic. Somehow it tasted like a whipped drink from Starbucks.

The juice from the $1 hand juicer was clear, fiber free, and smooth tasting. I admint I could probably due to have a nice $10 glass juicer with a better filter, and some sort of compressor to squeeze the last bits of juice out of the pulp but it was pretty good.

Clean up is easier with the hand juicer. The Breville Power Juicer is a complicated mess to clean. It is not worth taking it out.

I should note, however, that tomorrow when I am juicing other fruits and vegetables, the Breville Power Juicer will be indespensable.

Watch for my reviews of juicers, as well as recipes for juicing in the coming weeks.

What do you think? How do you juice?

A juice fast has been proposed by many as a compromise between a more difficult fast, such as the Master Cleanse, or a straight water fast.

[adrotate banner="8"]

Sometimes I wonder whether a full-time juice fast, or juice diet, would be a way to go. As with a live-food diet, you could meet your needs and still have a vast range of flavors to choose from. Meanwhile, nutrients would be mainlined into your blood stream without the need for heavy digestion.

Steve Pavilina has just completed what he called his “Juice Feast”. I like that term. It turns on its head any bad connotations of the word “fast”. Juicing is really quite enjoyable.

So here we are today, and I am so excited about different flavours of juice.

I am going to start with carrot, tomato and orange. This evening, I will try some veggies.

Of course, you can also make the soup, as directed in the book.

Posted in My Experience

Latest posts from The Master Cleanse and Lemonade Diet

Oh, wow, it’s nice to drink and taste the freshly-squeezed orange juice. We have been looking forward to eating something for such a long time that it feels like cheating when you don’t drink the lemonade.

Drink the juice slowly so you don’t upset your stomach. If you just pound back a quart of orange juice, you will likely get a reaction from your stomach. Sip it. Enjoy it. Savor it. You will actually notice over the next few days that, when you eat, you instinctively slow down. This is good, promoting as it does a long-term, healthy relationship with food. Be present with what you eat. Select good, nutritious and wonderful-tasting morsels, and eat slowly.

[adrotate banner="8"]

It feels good to put away the lemons and the maple syrup – although I have wondered about the Orange Juice Day and the total calories when only drinking the orange juice without the maple syrup. So I figured it out. During the cleanse, I consumed around 1 cup of maple syrup each day and 1 cup of lemon juice. That is about 900 calories. 1 8oz glass of orange juice provides 112 calories. I want to have around the same calories as the other days. The original book never actually specifies the amount of orange juice: it says, “Drink several 8oz glasses”. I decided to make 8 – 8oz glasses, providing me with 896 calories for the day.

I bought 16 large navel oranges yesterday. I tasted a little juice from one today, and it is pretty sour, so I might yet replace them. In the past, I have had oranges that yielded amazing juice, and I want the same again. I still don’t know for sure what kind of oranges produce the best juice.

I am also going to compare the hand juicer with the power juicer in order to see which produces the most juice, and by how much.

Before I start the Ease-Out with the Orange Juice, this morning, I will be doing my last Salt Water Flush. I will let the pulp and fiber in the orange juice build into a natural movement that is likely to follow the next day.

Ease-In

The Lemonade Diet

Ease-Out

Each of these three phases is equally as important to you successfully completing this sometimes challenging cleanse. It is very important to follow these directions carefully.

What is the Ease – out process?

The Ease-out process is the exact same as the Ease-in, but in reverse. This is another reason I choose to do the Ease-in: it prepares me for the Ease out. You will be tempted to jump-start this part of the process, but don’t. Consider this step ESSENTIAL.

At this point, you have done 10 or more days of cleansing. Now you can come off the Lemonade Diet in one of two ways:

Eating a Vegetarian Diet

Or eating a Normal Diet

Here is a quote from Tom Woloshyn’s book The Complete Master Cleanse on the Easing out: ” This important transition period of moving from lemonade to food will prepare your digestive system for more and more complex foods so that it does not become overwhelmed. Just as you wouldn’t try running a marathon after being a couch potato for three years, you wouldn’t brake a cleanse by launching into full-feasting mode. You want your digestive system to get well-deserved brake so that your body can start back on the right track. ”

How to break The Lemonade diet?

There is a very specific way of re-introducing food to your digestive system that has been resting for 10 or more days. Less is definitely more in this case.

Day 1 – Orange Juice – 3 1-liter orange juice with 2 tablespoons of maple syrup

Day 2 – Fruit and Veggie Juice – or Broth

Day 3 – Fruits and Veggies

Day 4 – Regular Diet; however, you should try to eat live foods – grains, etc.

Ease-Out Day 1 – Orange Juice

Manually or electrically juice enough oranges to make 2 liters of Orange Juice, mixed with water. Sometimes I find it hard to get the calories I need through the day and so I add some Maple Syrup to increase my caloric intake. Some people might want to dilute the orange juice with water for one day, to make the transition easier. Drink only fresh squeezed orange juice throughout the day.

Ease-Out Day 2 – Juicing, Blending, Soups and Broths

This step preps your body for a liquid diet and delivers macro nutrients more quickly to your bloodstream. By breaking down the foods to liquids we can more readily take in the nutrients from the food. Fruit and Vegetable Juicing is very enjoyable. There are endless combination’s of tasty juicing recipes. Blending is equally enjoyable. Green smoothies are like drinking a glass of healing. If you do not have a juicer, you can make soup or broths.

Easing – out recipes:

Great, tasty vegetarian soup recipes

Juicing recipes to perk up your energy

Ease-Out Day 3 – Living Food Diet

To do the Living Food Diet, you need only to eat live foods. Simply remove processed foods, meat and dairy from your diet. Enjoy shopping for, and eating interesting fruits and vegetables. Savor the rich flavor and textures. Be sure that you don’t go to heavy on fruits as they are high in sugar. A 60/40 balance of vegetables to fruits is a good guideline.

Importance of drinking enough water while Easing-out

The most important factor to keep in mind during this stage is to drink a lot of water. Especially when you are fruit and veggie juicing. If you do not make broth, and opt for juices instead, it is important you understand that the juice will have a great deal of fiber, and you need to make sure you have enough water in your system to keep you from becoming constipated.

What happens if I start eating solid food too soon?

You may become nauseated if you start to eat too soon, so please don’t underestimate the importance of this process. On the other hand, don’t be scared to death either. You do risk some serious constipation or even worse – but if you do eat something too soon, you will likely be okay in the long run. If you are unsure at any time – consult a doctor. My words here are opinion only, and should always be considered informational not medical advice.

The purpose of Easing-out video

Post Cleanse – After The Master Cleanse – Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle

When you are done The Master Cleanse, the next and maybe most important step is to begin to Eat Wisely. This sounds so simple, yet so many people go right back to eating emotionally to sooth their daily worries. Choose to Eat Wisely and you will not put the weight back on. If you go back to Eating Poorly, you will gain back all the weight you just lost – and maybe more!

After completing the cleansing process, many people are inspired to choose new approach to the way they eat. It is also a common experience for people to have very different, much healthier cravings. For some people this is a foundation to completely change their diet to:

Raw-food Diet

Vegetarian Diet

Vegan Diet

If you find your self inclined to do this, go with what your body tells and is craving now that you have an opportunity ” to start from a scratch”, you may say.
