The Grapefruit Diet includes Bacon?

Cleanse & Detox

The Grapefruit Diet isn’t as extreme as the Master Cleanse, but the Grapefruit diet can take many forms. The bottom line is that you eat half a Grapefruit or an entire grapefruit before every meal during the diet. This is not to be confused with the Grapefruit Juice Diet, which only uses grapefruit juice or a 1 juice version a Juice Diet or Juice Cleanse.

The basis of the diet is that there is an ingredient of the Grapefruit that when eaten with protien creates a weight loss state. Because of this it seems like the Atkins diet got its start with the Grapefruit diet.

Weight loss occurs because of the low calorie, but you are not starving yourself. In fact, no “diet” should starve you. I think you should always consume calories for your body to function. The more moderate grapefruit diet allows for normal meals but The grapefruit is said to boost your metabolism and can be limited to under 1,000 calories each day.

12 Day Grapefruit Diet

Each day of the 12 day Grapefruit Diet you eat prescribed meals that are similar everyday. Here is an example (remember that you always eat 1/2 of a grapefruit before the meal) This is the Grapefruit diet plan as found on WebMD

Breakfast on the Grapefruit Diet

1/2 Grapefruit – 2 Eggs, 2 Bacon strips, and Coffee

Lunch on the Grapefruit Diet

1/2 Grapefruit – Salad with low fat dressing. As much meat as you want

Dinner on the Grapefruit Diet

1/2 Grapefruit – Green and Red veggies – no starch vegetables like peas, beans corn or potatoes. Again unlimited meat

Snack on the Grapefruit Diet

1/2 Grapefruit – Skim Milk

Weight Loss on the Grapefruit Diet

Even though there is no mention of the quantity of the meat you eat when doing the Grapefruit Diet, there is mention to keep the diet under 1,000 calories and Drink 64 ounces of water –which I personally feel is the backbone of any weight loss diet especially detox diets. Since there are very few calories consumed you would have a caloric deficit and therefore would loose up to 1 pound per day.

I don’t think there is any mystery about why you loose weight –unlike others who claim the grapefruit as the miracle weight loss diet. It is just the combination of low calories and very nutritious Grapefruit. But I think that the all-you-can-eat meat idea to couple the grapefruit diet with protein might be a little off. You might be better to choose other protein sources, as a raw food diet is likely better for the human body than cooked meat. The Grapefruit is low glycemic food and low calorie food. It is high in Vitamin C and fiber.

This Grapefruit Diet is NOT the Mayo Clinic Grapefruit Diet

Sometimes people call this diet the Mayo Clinic Grapefruit Diet. This is erroneous. The Mayo Clinic does not endorse this diet at all.

Variations on the Grapefruit Diet

The Grapefruit Diet Ingredients

There are many versions of the Grapefruit Diet. There is the Grapefruit Juice Diet, the Egg Grapefruit Diet. I personally think a hybrid of the Grapefruit, Juice Feast and Master Cleanse might be a nice choice.

What do you think of the Grapefruit Diet?

What do you think? Is there more or less merit to this Grapefruit Diet than the Master Cleanse or any other diet for detox or weight loss.
