There are Three Secrets to The Master Cleanse:

Each of these will be explained in detail, and it is very important to follow these directions carefully. What is the Lemonade Diet?
The Lemonade diet aka The Master Cleanse is simple yet effective way to detox your body. Here is description of this diet by one of the experts on this specific Cleanse – Tom Woloshyn:

The Lemonade Diet begins with preparing the Lemonade. During the diet, you will only consume the Lemonade that you make each day. In order to ensure that it is fresh and will retain as much of the nutrients and energy as possible, you should prepare the Lemonade just moments before drinking it.
Lemonade Diet Ingredients

How to Make the Lemonade
Start by rolling a Lemon on the cutting board to get it nice and juicy. Cut the lemon along its belly and grind it on the juicer. Do this until you have juiced half your lemons, or until you have no more room in your juicer.
- Measure 2 Tablespoons of Fresh Lemon Juice into your large cup.
- Now measure and at 2 Tablespoons of Rich Maple Syrup to the cup.
- Measure and add 1/10 Teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper to the cup (or more to taste).
- Mix a and drink immediately.
While on the Lemonade Diet, you can and should drink plenty of Pure Water. I drink 1 cup as a chaser after each cup of Lemonade. You can drink more throughout the day. Try to avoid drinking more than double the amount of Lemonade each day.
Drinking enough water helps to wash out the toxins being released into your blood stream and out of your body during the cleanse. It also helps to prevent possible headaches as well as feeling of hunger or cravings that surface during the detox.
Tips on how to make the Master Cleanse Lemonade right
- 1. Store your lemons on the counter to ripen, NOT in the fridge. Enzymes are dormant in the fridge. You want those enzymes. If you buy 50 lemons in advance, as most people do, store 40 in the fridge at a time and take the 10 most ripe lemons out for your first day or two.
- 2. Next, cut the lemon and juice each half on the juicer (If using an electric juicer you may want to juice the whole allotment at once, since you will not be sure how many lemons will yield the proper amount of juice. You may initially find you will waste a lemon or two).
- 3. Add the rest of the lemonade ingredients into the glass, mix immediately, and drink. I like to drink the glass quickly because it seems to hit my hunger spot quickly. I usually only drink when I need to, and when enough time has passed to allow for a nice spread over the day as I try to manage my daily quota.
- 4. Drink your lemonade as soon as you can after you made it (5-10 minutes after it was made). If you allow the lemonade to sit with the Cayenne pepper in it too long as it will steep. The lemonade will get too spicy and that may prevent you from drinking enough lemonade during the day.
(Note: You might get a kick out of licking the tablespoon measure after adding your maple syrup. You may even come to look forward to this part of the process –just don’t “eat” the syrup in quantity).
If you are doing The Salt Water Flush, you should drink your first glass of lemonade after your first bowel movement to allow the process of elimination to begin.
The Lemonade Diet Concentrate – the most common mistake
Previously mentioned on this website was my preference to drink Pre-mix Lemonade. I now understand a critical flaw to this plan. The longer your Lemonade sits, the more enzymes die. If you need to Pre-mix your Lemonade, then you should only mix a concentrate of just 2 ingredients :
- The Fresh Lemon Juice
- And the Rich Maple Syrup.

Most Master Cleanse Practitioners won’t recommend less than 10 days. 10 days is a great achievement and will produce far better results as your body can really begin to focus on the deep and dark within. 14 days is very challenging and when added to the Ease-in and Ease-out is almost 3 weeks in total. I have heard of, and known, people who go for 30 and more.
Can you eat fruits and veggies in this process
Just finishing up day 10! I’m down two dress sizes, and feel great! I decided to do this cleanse because I’d become addicted to food. Food is fuel for the lives we lead, and I’d become so focused on food that I needed to do something to break that cycle and focus on what’s important in life. This cleanse has done the trick. Instead of focusing on cooking, shopping for food etc, I’ve focused more on my husband, my business, and my hobbies. Day 4 was the hardest for me. I went to a wedding reception and had to turn down everything, but overcoming that challenge was the best reward! I had originally planned on going longer than 10 days, however my energy levels have not been high enough for me to do my normal burst training exercises. I have had plenty mental clarity, focus, and energy for every day living, however. I’m going to start my ease out process tomorrow, focus on a raw food diet afterwords with the occasional “vacation meal” and resume burst training in order to maintain my results.
For those in the middle of the cleanse or thinking about trying it, it will be one of the greatest things you have done for yourself. The key is mindset. Get into the mindset that you are committed to this for 10 days, no matter what, and do it. Seeing people eat, smelling food, etc will always be appealing, but I was never tempted because I knew I’d made a commitment to myself. Best of luck!
Im going to do it but not sure how to start with salt water flush
Lemonade Diet Day 3. My aunt has done the cleanse for 3 weeks and not only lost weight, but she felt energized and healthy. She turned my father onto it and he did it for 3 weeks and went from 360 lbs to 290…and still going strong. Im 24 and in athletic shape…6’7, 215lbs and workout daily..so i didnt feel like i needed to do this or it didnt apply to me..but here i am im on day 3 and this is been the ultimate test..mentally and physically. I feel super energized and can actually think way more clear. I plan to go for 2 weeks straight, not necessairly to lose weight but to get more cut and to detox my body from all the partyin the last couple of years. I do notice results after 3 days so im excited to see what 2 weeks will do. I was thinkin i would be hungry especially after i workout but the maple syurp helps with that, i feel no hunger. Im definitly cutting out sodas and fast food after my clense, may consider juicing as well. I am considering that im going to be pretty hungry for solid food after my clense, so i cant wait to order a 4×4 from in in out lol :p but stay strong and true! i am using the lemonade diet to jump start my weight loss plan. this is my 4th day and i have lost 1 lb a day so far. at this point i have had to modify the diet to work for me

i plan on doing this for the first 10 days then go another 10 on the complete lemonade diet with one substitution. . . the cayenne pepper gel caps. the lemonade is so much more palatable this way.

Lemonade Diet Day 6…I can’t believe I’m actually doing this…day 1, 3, and 4 were the worst! I’m so addicted to food, I’ve been having food dreams, where even though I know I’m not supposed to I eat, in my dreams! This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life, it will be so rewarding when I’m done, and I can’t wait to savor and enjoy healthy living when I’m done. The weird crazy thing is that even though I haven’t eaten anything for six days I still have excrement leaving my body…its foul but at least it’s cleansing…This is one of the biggest feats I’ve ever done in my life…thank you for this website for the information and everything…
can i make the lemonade for couple of days at a time instead of every day. I am on my second day. I only pass watery motion after drinking the salt water in the morning for couple of times and the rest of the day do not have any. Is it ok. I am feel very light and energetic. No pain or any thing else. It feels great.
Finishing up day one! This my second attempt after stopping after a week the first time. The whole hunger this is completely the mind messing with you. Hi everyone, today is my DAY 3. Honestly, it’s horrible. It’s so hard. Headache is killing me. I am so tempted to eat! I even turned down 3 dinner invitations with my friends. Day 2 was horrible, because I was starving to death. The worst part was I feel like passing out. I began doing this cleanse 30 years ago when my yoga teacher gave me the recipe and have always had great success with it, though I have never done it to lose weight, so never tracked that. But the cleansing part is outstanding. I checked out your website to see if there were any new recommendations out there, but nothing has really changed. But the support and information you offer is outstanding.
I’m finishing day one, felt a bit draggy from the salt water cleanse and I know I haven’t had enough of the drink today, but I haven’t felt hungry at all. Tomorrow I’ll up the amount of lemonade I drink.
For the headaches I recommend peppermint oil at the base of the skull at the two indentation points. It will get the energy flowing again and should help ease the pain. Massaging those areas also helps if you don’t have any peppermint oil (available at a health food store). Also, there is an acupressure point on the palm of the hand at the base of the thumb that often hurts if you have a headache or digestive disorder – you can find it by pressing the meaty area that is kind of a half moon at the base of the thumb with your other thumb – press hard. Once you find it (you’ll recognize it because it hurts) massage it for awhile – it should help ease the headache. Either hand may hurt – I recommend you massage both of them.
Last comment: your section titled “Directions on making the Lemonade Diet Recipe” doesn’t list the water in the mixing portion as something that also needs to be added in . . . only the lemon, maple syrup, and cayenne. For newbies, it might turn them off if they don’t remember that this is all mixed with pure water because it will probably taste heinous without the water . . .

Day 2 of the Lemonade diet. I did this three years ago to kick start my diet and it did wonders. Lost 10 pounds to start and after detoxing I was able to cut out most sugars, processed foods and ALL sodas and energy drinks, the weight continued to come off. Some helpful hints: Have an exercise plan in place immediately after stopping the cleanse. Your metabolism will slow down so you NEED to incorporate cardio to maintain and continue on with the weight loss. If you go back to eating lasagna and drinking sodas from the couch, you’ve done this for nothing.
That being said, over the last couple of years my habits have reverted back to the old days. Lets face it, it’s easy to eat bad. So this time I’m doing it to lose 15 pounds and get back to those healthy eating habits. It’s hard though. I want to eat everything in sight. I tell myself 2 more days and then the hard part is through and it gets easier, but those first 4 days are the toughest days in the world. I must keep telling myself, “I have food, food doesn’t have me”. Ugh.
