The Lemonade Diet

The Lemonade Diet is the portion of The Master Cleanse during which you consume only the Lemonade. It is a diet in the sense that you are restricted to a certain food. The Lemonade Diet is often used synonymously with The Master Cleanse, but I break it down in order to describe the portion of The Master Cleanse when you consume the nutrients and energy from the Fresh Lemon Juice, Rich Maple Syrup, and organic Cayenne Pepper.
The other sections of The Master Cleanse are the Ease-In, The Lemonade Diet (of course), the Salt Water Flush, the Ease-Out, and the Post Cleanse Lifestyle.

The Lemonade Diet begins with preparing the Lemonade. During the diet, you will only consume the Lemonade that you make each day. In order to ensure that it is fresh and will retain as much of the nutrients and energy as possible, you should prepare the Lemonade just moments before drinking it.
Ingredients for The Lemonade Diet Recipe
To make the Lemonade you will need the following ingredients:
- 2 Tablespoons of Fresh Lemon Juice from one half of a Lemon
- 2 Tablespoons of Rich Maple Syrup
- 1/10 of a Teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper
- 1 – 2 cups of Pure Water (Alkaline Water is best, in my opinion)
To prepare the Lemonade for the Lemonade Diet you will also need the following:
- 1 large cup to mix your lemonade in
- 1 Tablespoon Measure
- 1/10 Teaspoon Measure
- Cutting Board
- Sharp knife
- Juicer (Hand juicer or Power juicer)
Directions on making the Lemonade Diet Recipe

Start by rolling a Lemon on the cutting board to get it nice and juicy. Cut the lemon along its belly and grind it on the juicer. Do this until you have juiced half your lemons, or until you have no more room in your juicer.
Measure 2 Tablespoons of Fresh Lemon Juice into your large cup.
Now measure and at 2 Tablespoons of Rich Maple Syrup to the cup.
Measure and add 1/10 Teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper to the cup (or more to taste).
Mix a and drink immediately.
While on the Lemonade Diet, you can and should drink plenty of Pure Water. I drink 1 cup as a chaser after each cup of Lemonade. You can drink more throughout the day. Try to avoid drinking more than double the amount of Lemonade each day.

Hi folks, today is my Day 1. At about 7:30am I mixed the ingredients with about a cup or two or water and drank it very quickly. I nearly puked. I have since consumed about a litre of water and it is now 11:30am. Hunger comes and goes and I really want to eat. I am about to do my second mixture but feel that 6 of them in a day may be more than I need. Is it OK to not drink the minimum of 6 glasses in a day? I feel that 4 or 5 would be suffice. Tonight I will drink my tea and in the morning I will do a salt water flush but so far I feel that 6 glasses may be more than I want. This may also sound crazy but I am already cold. Is anyone else just beginning or have just begun? We could leave eachother daily messages to help get through the days! Let me know anbd we could add eachother on fb or chat on here….

It is also my first day and I am cold as well, but I am always cold so I don’t think it is from the cleanse. I had my tea last night and this morning, and I have had about 15oz of the lemonade so far. My husband started today as well and he has already had 30oz and is ready for another 30! Can you drink more than 60oz in a day? But no, I didn’t nor do I feel sick drinking it. It is actually quite tasty!! We have a lemon tree and the lemons are so juicy and sweet, maybe that is why? But so far so good!!

I believe you can drink as much as you want, but the more weight loss the less you should drink. That is my conundrum…I have only had 2 glasses and it is 5pm. I have drank 3L of water only, too. I am not sure if I should force myself to drink the mixture 6 times or not. I am still cold, I usually am, too, but find I am much more so today. I have been really hungy at different times and wanted to cave but never. I have only urinated, too, tonight I will drink the tea and tomorrow morning I will do the SWF. I was going strong until I took my 15 month old to our mommy and me class, boy did I get wiped out and got a bad headache! I wanted to eat so bad and take motrin but instead made a small cup of coffee. Probably not the best idea but I suffer from bad migraines and didn’t want to chance it! You are a champ to have only had 2 glasses! If you drink the tea tonight and in the a.m. you will do more than urinate~ I had the tea last night and let’s just say I have gone more times in one day than I usually do in a week! Hi, my names Sarah. I just stumbled across your comment on the master cleanse site and wanted to suggest to you, as a nurse, if you are diabetic, this is not a good idea. Any program that does not allow you to eat, will surely put you into a diabetic shock when your sugars plummet. I urge you to please not do this or any similar program where you are to fast.

I would be fantastic if you had a weeks meal plan post cleanse on the website to kick start the new life style. I’m really excited about being a healthier person. This is day nine of my master cleanse, I quit smoking cold turkey upon starting my cleanse and I’d like to thank this diet it’s inspirational.
I’m worried about gaining weight after the cleanse is over. I’ve done a lot of research on what to eat for the up coming week and just thought it would be sweet to include an example meal plan for people who don’t have time to do the research.

I just started the cleanse today, and I have a question…in each 1 liter bottle, can you add water to fill it up the rest of the way to dilute the lemonade? The directions don’t say this, but I don’t understand why you do two different 1 liter bottles when it ends up to only be 14 tablespoons of liquid in each.

You obviously need to dilute it with a litre of water. Having a litre each makes it easier to carry around, i guess.
I was initially mixing all the ingredients in a 2 litre bottle for each day as i found it very easy that way. But today i’ve been preparing it per glass.
Its up to you how you mix it, as long as you drink between 6 and 12 glasses each day.

I just finished the ease in process and today is my first day on the lemonade diet. Is it ok to eat small amounts of fruit/veggies for the first 1-2 days?

Littlebird, you should not eat fruits and veggies on Day 1 thru the end, it defeats the purpose of the cleanse. You should be resting your digestive system. The good news is, you probably will not feel hungry (I never did, the whole 10 days).

Hi, I was wondering if I can use the Lemonade Drink after I am done with the cleanse if/when I need a pick me up or if I don’t want to eat a meal. Is it okay to use during a regular healthy diet?

Many people use it as a meal substitute particularly in the morning hours as the lemonade has properties that help energize and detox the body gently throughout the day. Some people decide to do 1-2 days a week of just the lemonade. It is perfectly safe. As always, if unsure, ask your doctor but this is a fairly common practice for those who are starting a new lifestyle and want to incorporate the MC. Also seasonal MC’s can be helpful. It’s safe to do this cleanse 3-4 times a year.

The capsules should still the same measurement as regular cayenne. Determine the size of the capsules.

That is probably one of the most moronic comments I have ever seen. You should have been euthanized at birth to ensure the world’s intelligent quotient would not be curved by your immeasurable stupidity.
The majority of people who do this diet are doing it to cleanse their bowels and release all of the packed in crap that is caked to their intestinal wall that is a result of our generally putrid eating habits. This is not something to do simply to lose weight. (although it works well prior to beginning a weight loss program)
