Julia Kozerski, 28, is an artist and photographer who put her skills to good use in documenting her dramatic weight loss. Just after getting married in 2009, Julia embarked on an incredible weight loss journey and ended up losing half her body weight. Throughout the process of losing 160 pounds, Julia documented her entire experience by taking pictures of herself in dressing rooms using her trusty iPhone.
Julia’s Methods For Incredible Weight Loss
Julia reached her goal by watching her diet and ditching junk food. She also began counting calories and keeping track of how much food she consumed by weighing each portion. She took up walking and biking, also employing a BodyBugg, a device that tracked her daily calorie expenditure.
“I struggled the most with staying realistic,” Julia recalls, “I would often become frustrated that things weren’t progressing fast enough. This is when I used my photographs, I could easily flip through my phone and instantly see where I was and where I came from. They helped me stay grounded.”
While these photos were her only source of support at first, her husband and family soon became enthusiastic supporters as well. When she released the photographs as part of her school project at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, classmates and instructors followed. She has also found acceptance and support from many people around the world since she has shared the images on the web.
Julia’s Advice For Weight Loss
Being an inspirational figure to many people who struggle with their weight, Julia has this advice to give: “My advice is to not give up. You may struggle (as I did losing weight while growing up). You may feel like losing weight or making change is impossible. You may fall down and have to pick yourself up. It’s all normal! I believe success is about finding balance. You will succeed if you find the right combination – the right time in your life, the right mindset, the passion and drive.”
