Everyone who chooses to do the Master Cleanse has very specific reasons why they feel they need to cleanse. They may have goals to achieve, be it to lose weight fast (or at any speed), eliminate toxins, to address bad eating habits or balancing their health in certain aspects. To ensure your results, we decided to write a short article to help you avoid the common mistakes many people make during the Master Cleanse.
Here are 5 tips on how to make the Master Cleanse Lemonade right:
Tip # 1 – How to store your lemons
Store your lemons on the counter to ripen, NOT in the fridge. Enzymes are dormant in the fridge. You want those enzymes. Take the 10 most ripe lemons out for your first day or two.
This is a simple mistake to make but it can be very costly and have a big impact on the detoxing process that is taking place during the Master Cleanse. The Fresh Lemon Juice is the MOST CRITICAL component of this powerful lemonade detox diet. If you don’t drink your Lemon Juice Fresh, you will not be getting the vital enzymes that lose vitality over time, and exposure to light and air.
Tip # 2 – Use the best quality of water you can find/afford
The quality of water consumed during the Cleanse is extremely important. The quality of your water during the Master Cleanse is the key to great results.You probably know that your body uses water to flush and transport toxins to the organs of elimination ( The colon, bladder, lungs, skin and so on…) to discharge them. Latest scientific research shows that many health problems can be significantly improved, or completely eliminated, with just an adequate consumption of good water.
We recommend 3 ways to ensure your water is pure and appropriate for the Master Cleanse:
- Check your local health-food store for Purified Bottled Water.
- Install good Water Filter for your tap water.
- You can also use Water Ionizer.
Can I use distilled water?
Tip # 3 – Make each glass of lemonade fresh
By that we mean, make one glass at the time if possible and always use freshly squeezed lemon juice. After you juiced your lemons, add the rest of the lemonade ingredients into the glass, mix immediately and drink. I like to drink the glass quickly because it seems to hit my hunger spot quickly. I usually only drink when I need to, and when enough time has passed to allow for a nice spread over the day as I try to manage my daily quota.
Quick tip: Don’t wait till you are thirsty. That is the final sign of your body telling you that it is dehydrated. Keep to drinking at least 8 glasses of lemonade a day (from my experience) and more if you are working out, have to be very active or doing the cleanse in summer time (when we naturally need to drink more water).
How do I take my Master Cleanse to go and make sure it is fresh each time?
I know that making the lemonade fresh presents a challenge if you are going to work every day or just have to take your Master Cleanse lemonade on the road with you at times. Tip # 4 – What to do if the lemonade is too spicy

Drink your lemonade as soon as you can after you made it (5-10 minutes after it was made). If you allow the lemonade to sit with the Cayenne pepper in it for too long as it will steep (just like a tea). The lemonade will get too spicy and that may prevent you from drinking enough lemonade during the day.
You can also use Cayenne pepper capsules that you can just swallow with each glass of lemonade and avoid the immediate spicy taste of the cayenne pepper and still get all the benefits.
Tip # 5 -The Lemonade Diet Concentrate – the most common mistake
Previously mentioned on this website was my preference to drink Pre-mix Lemonade. I now understand a critical flaw to this plan. The longer your Lemonade sits, the more enzymes die. The solution to this problem is to make your Master Cleanse concentrate that you can use for making fresh lemonade by adding water and the cayenne pepper as you go.

If you need to Pre-mix your Lemonade, then you should only mix a concentrate of just 2 ingredients :
- The Fresh Lemon Juice
- And the Rich Maple Syrup.
Are you supposed to drink water in between drinking the lemonade?
Also, I am not understanding the swf, could someone please explain how that is done. How much water to how much salt?
Day 1, and feel great. I’d bought Stanley’s book ten years ago, and I did a lot of detox at that time, was in awesome shape. Back to it.
To make it to go, one could have a ‘to go’ cup and a bag of half sliced lemons, little bottles of the syrup and cayenne and a plastic spoon. One can find a place to open the cup, add water, cayenne and sugar, squeeze lemons with fingers (or if you can find a tiny portable lemon squeezer) and shake the cup. If you put everything in a ziploc bag, doesn’t take much space in a purse and you can leave a supply in your desk at work, bringing in the lemons daily.
I am adding a dash of cinammon or garlic or ginger to my lemonade, as these things are staples in my diet. Hope that is OK, but we’ll find out.
Can you use hot water?
Just a word of caution. The master cleanse isn’t right for everyone…..it put me into the hospital with racing heartbeat and hyperventilation. My body became unbalanced and sent me into acidosis.
Maybe you needed to ease into it rather than go right on it. Just a thought not a fact
Just to add more wisdom to your article: It is not advised to take cayenne capsules instead of adding the cayenne. As soon as anything spicy hits your tongue, your body responds by making enzymes to ameliorate the heat once in the stomach. It is yet another way the body protects us. When you take a capsule of cayenne, the stomach is not prepared as the cayenne capsule melts and delivers a BLOW of heat to a stomach not expecting it. This causes nausea and stomach aches. the best way I have found to avoid this is to open a capsule right before drinking my drink and adding it. It is not AS hot if it doesn’t have a chance to sit in the drink. However, it should carry some heat so your body can prepare.
So what are the benefits of making it fresh compared to making it all at once? What are the benefits of glass over plastic? How will it effect me if I still make it all at once in a plastic container?
I am on day one and I actually feel really good. I am not as hungry as I thought I would be. I have to admit… I am pretty afraid of the SWF, however I intend to swallow it down tomorrow morning.
Do I refrigerate the concentrate?
Can’t wait to try. Want to rid body of toxins, not so much weight as detox.
The Master Cleanse IS a 10 day minimum cleanse but of course fasting for a shorter period would likely still be beneficial. Good Luck!
