The most commonly agreed-on sign that your Master Cleanse is done, is the “Master Cleanse Tongue” the pink tongue emerging (or returning) as your body moves through stages of detox. There is some controversy to this as well as there are different reasons why one may develop a white fuzzy tongue, but Stanley Burroughs himself noted: “One of the best signals of the completed diet is when the formerly coated and fuzzy tongue is clear pink and clean looking. During the diet it becomes very badly coated.”

Use The “Master Cleanse Tongue” to Gauge Your Detox

It’s thought that your tongue becomes very white while toxins are being eliminated, much like when you are sick. As the toxins are reduced in numbers, this effect decreases. Some people never get white tongues at all, having had fewer toxins.

Another sign it may be time to end the cleanse are:

  • When your movements are growing increasingly clear. Like with the pink tongue, clear movements are giving signs that detox is waning in severity.
  • Detox Events / Healing Crisis Wane: Likewise with the master cleanse white tongue, events of detox, such as breakouts, cold/flu symptoms, rashes etc. (what we call healing events), are disappearing (if you had them at all). Note, detox is a funny thing. Sometimes you’ll go through 3 separate master cleanses before getting to the point of a healing event. Sometimes the earlier detoxes were working through aspects that didn’t provoke a clearly recognizable detox symptom, but when you get to a toxic storage strong hold, be it physical or emotional or both, those deeply sequester toxic memory and substances will send your body into reaction.
  • If you have an overwhelming desire to eat. This sensation must be clearly recognized, and it’s usually easy to do so. It goes beyond the psychological, you should end the cleanse.
