You absolutely can not use table salt. It can not be iodized. If possible, seek out organic sea salt (although I admit that’s a bit of a misnomer if there ever was one). But the meaning of the marketing term is simply neither iodized nor refined. Sea salt works for me every time… If you scooped a bucket of sea water, evaporated the liquid, and had 2 teaspoons of salt left or your sea salt cleanse, you’re off and running (to the bathroom ;)
If that is unavailable, get any other non-iodized salt like himalayan salt because it’s from an ancient sea.
NOTE: Don’t believe the hype that salt is the devil (although as is the case with most of our modern conventions, industrialized, refined table salt is indeed the devil along with white sugar and white flour. Salt is an essential nutrient. We come from salt water. Saline is in our existence. Did you know our saliva is 99% saline? (the name kind of gives it away) We need it. We just need it in a natural form.
Sea salt, natural un-refined is needed for your salt water cleanse because it takes up the same “specific gravity” of your blood, and is therefor not digested, but rather passed through the body, eliminating quickly, and flushing through your pipes on the way. A perfect example of a health hack if there ever was one.
Did you notice these phony health gurus never say why you can’t use table salt? You can use it and it works. That being said you should only use salt as a laxative as a last resort. Salt poisoning (hypernatremia) will kill you, and it doesn’t matter what kind of salt you use.
If you do use salt as a laxative you should get thirsty. Make sure you drink plenty of water to flush the excess salt out of your body.
By the way, is the salt wasn’t digested the cleanse wouldn’t work. Salt works as a laxative because it IS digested and you body uses fluids to flush the excess out of your system. You are basically overdosing on salt which causes you to thirst. Your body then uses fluids you drink to expel the salt before it becomes toxic.
Please help all i have is table salt im hurting so bad can i use it
It really bothers me that we’re told we absolutely can’t use iodized salt but not WHY. SO, i’m asking…WHY?????
I bought Hain iodized sea salt by accident , can I use this or do I need to exchange for the regular ?
How about epsom salt will that be ok?
I’ve done numerous cleanses, and have always used Iodized salt. Sometimes I use table salt, sometimes sea salt. It depends what I have on hand. I say if you try iodized salt and it works, then just go with it.
I purchased Morton’s Fine Sea Salt, it states that it does not contain Iodide, is this acceptable for the salt water flush?
I used Real Salt this time and it worked well… I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it as it is unprocessed sea salt, plus has a lot of different trace minerals in it to help keep my mineral levels up. It still was hard to chug the saltwater solution, but it doesn’t taste as bad as other salts.
Day 1 Lemon Diet:
I’ve purchased a seasalt from the market and that was the only seasalt they had, but no where on the package does it say non iodized or non refined? So I’m not sure if it’s going to work? Should I try it anyway? I’m on day 1 and was planning on doing the SWF first thing tomorrow morning? Any suggestions?
Should people on blood pressure medication be concerned about the salt water flush?
