Feeling a little hotter than usual? Perhaps your energy or libido levels have dramatically declined? Most likely you’re suffering from a hormonal imbalance. With all of the extra hormones and estrogen that are readily available in our foods and drinking water, it’s hard not to be affected.
Hormonal imbalances can occur at any time, though they are more commonly noted after age 30 in both men and women. Why not try an all-natural adaptogen instead?
If you’re feeling out-of-whack, maca could be your answer because it offers cleansing properties. Maca powder is an herbal and natural remedy that helps stabilize the physical processes in your body, and balances hormones at the same time.
Maca comes from a root in Peru that has a history of helping people fight off disease, fatigue, and much more. Operating as an all-natural adaptogen, you can combat the symptoms of a hormonal imbalance and start to quickly feel relief.
Beverly Hill’s doctor, Eva Cwynar, who specializes in anti-aging and cleansing supports maca powder as an amazing superfood. She stated “Female and male patients report that maca helps engender a feeling of core strength and vitality”. She says, “I have patients aged 30 to 90 taking it, and they all love the way it energizes them in a slow and steady way, plus there is never a crash from it as with caffeine.”
Where is Maca from?
Maca dates back as far as 3800 B.C. when the Peruvian Indians were harvesting it for both the root’s nutritional and medicinal values. It has been cultivated since then and has been praised for it’s multiple health benefits.
Maca grows at the highest elevation in the Junin plateau, located in central Peru (anywhere between 7,000 feet to 11,000 feet), and the root resembles a radish. Maca is known to be the plant which grows at the highest altitude in the world. The higher the elevation that a maca root is discovered, the more nutrients that maca root offers.
What’s in Maca Powder that Balances Hormones?
Maca powder is one of the most sought after adaptogen herbs. In fact, Peruvian medical professionals still use it to help balance hormones.
Maca is so powerful and amazing because it adapts to each person to help balance whatever is hindering his or her health. Maca can sense when there is an imbalance and can help the body process this nutritionally dense food while cleansing the body of toxic build up. It helps the body defend against physical, chemical, and biological stress, which helps the body stay balanced.
It works directly on the endocrine system. The endocrine system is made up of a several glands: pituitary, hypothalamus, pineal, thyroid, adrenal, thymus, parathyroid, ovaries, testes and pancreas. These glands are the major hormone producers within the body. By regulating the glands that produce hormones in the body, maca is creating a hormonal balance within the body. It provides vital nutrients that fuel the endocrine system, which is regulating the body’s metabolism, energy levels, sex drive, and most importantly, a sense of well-being. In turn, it helps you feel more balanced, decreases hot flashes, increases sleep, stresses are reduced, toxins are disposed of, and so much more.
Other Benefits of Maca Powder
Unlike hormone replacement therapy, Maca root is non-toxic and safe to consume. In addition to helping balance hormones naturally, Maca powder can:
- Possibly reverse hyperthyroidism without the use of traditional thyroid regulating drugs.
- Promotes hormonal balance naturally and does not contain any actual hormones.
- Increase fertility naturally — without the need for any fertility medications.
- High in minerals, including calcium, potassium, iron, essential fatty acids, fiber (four times more than a potato) and protein. Also contains a high concentration of vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, and C — which is what adds natural energy.
- Increase libido in men and women.
How to Take It
Maca root is best when it is in powder form so it can be digested more easily. In order to achieve the cleansing effect and the health benefits, you should start with a half a teaspoon twice a day. You might notice some detoxing symptoms the first couple of days including headaches, nausea, and maybe some feelings of thirst. You’ll immediately notice a boost of energy. After one or two weeks increase your serving size to a teaspoon in the morning and in the afternoon.
The powder can be sprinkled into your morning coffee, added to smoothies or even put into your favorite cereal. It has a sweet nutty flavor, so adding it to peanut butter is a great way to get a nutritional punch with added protein.
While it is safe, it is a very powerful natural herb. Therefore, you want your body to adjust accordingly. Because maca powder connects with the endocrine system, you will notice it working as quickly as a couple days.
While you’re cleansing, consider adding Maca powder to your diet to help reach your cleansing and health goals!

Is it going to be detrimental to add a small dose while on the traditional master cleanse?
I’m well aware, having done the master cleanse successfully(following the rules carefully) once before, that we’re not supposed to supplement during it, but this sounds like it wouldn’t really interfere with the cleanse.
