Group Cleanse Support Topic: Detox and The Salt Water Flush (My Experience)

This page is a Support Topic Page for the Topic of Detox and The Salt Water Flush for our Master Cleanse Group Cleanse. Please check that page for details on our Quarterly Cleanses and our Individual Cleanses.

The Group Cleanse will not only give us the forum to support each other, doing The Master Cleanse together, but it also enables us to track our experiences by setting standards to the conversation. If we all just posted random thoughts we would get a lot less value from the comments. But if the comments are structured, and relevant by time and topic, we can gain even more insight, more quickly and more effectively. Therefore we ask participants to start and finish the Master Cleanse on the same dates.

This page is the place for participants in the The Master Cleanse Group Experience to post their daily entries. To post, simply leave a comment. You don’t have to be logged in to post. Please provide 100 words each day – don’t worry; that’s not that much. The paragraph below, for example, is 100 words.

Support Topic: Detox and The Salt Water Flush

The Salt Water Flush (SWF) might be the hardest part of the Master Cleanse, but it doesn’t have to be. It is essential to the cleanse because it facilitates the detox by flushing your system. What is working and what is not working. How are your movements? Are they successful? What do they look like? Are they getting lighter or darker? Are the becoming more frequent? Do you have other signs of detoxing, like breakouts or white tongue? The Master Cleanse is about Detox and daily eliminations are critical to the success of the cleanse. Is this Detox Diet successful so far?

Newbie day #4 – tried the SWF today after I woke up from my nap this afternoon. I am now sooooo nauseous! I have had two movements, and trying to drink the lemonade because I haven’t had anything since about 9am. Maybe that’s why I am feeling sick? Or is the detox actually working? It’s confusing and frustrating and I almost feel like what am I doing?!?! Gonna stick it out one more day, but if I feel this sick tomorrow and am unable to even drink the lemonade, i’m easing out on day #5.

Hi Jennifer, I’m a newbie, too. I don’t really know if what I’m feeling is detox or something else. I have definitely felt sick but if it’s because my body is detoxing that makes it a little easier to take. I’ve watched some master cleanse YouTube videos and it seems that everyone dislikes the SWF but some can discipline themselves to do it anyway and they offer some tips. I was just watching general MC videos, but maybe you could find some specific to your biggest areas of concern. Take care of yourself, Jennifer! You’ve made it through 4 days, and that’s an accomplishment.

Jennifer, this is detox. Congratulations! Your body is responding very well to your cleanse. I have gone through what you are experiencing. I was sure I had the flu. I determined however, that it was going to make it through. Shortly thereafter, I broke out in a cold sweat and felt amazing. You are experiencing something called a herxheimer reaction. Please GOOGLE that phrase. It will calm your fears as to what is happening. Your body is doing everything it can to convince you to give it food.

If you do ease out, just know that if you ever attempt to do this again, it will not be as bad. You have started the cesspool moving out and what has already left cannot make you sick any longer. You can do this, but everyone understands if you need to stop. Melinda is right. 5 days is better than to have never started.

Thank you! I have posted similar things on all the boards, but I will let you know on this one that I am still here – taking it one day at a time. I did not ease out today, although this heartburn is killing me. Constant throat tickle that I am not sure if it is post-nasal or reflux. But I am back at work tonight and am NOT going to try the SWF again tonight. I will take my laxative tea tonight (which I did not do last night after the SWF) – which I actually feel like is a little “treat”. Shaking my head at that – the laxative tea is a treat!!

I read everything on the website about the SWF – and over and over it says it is optional. Although I get what Cathy said about the agitator and the rinse cycle, I just don’t know that it is worth it for me.

        I may try tomorrow…?

Cathy and Mary, thanks for your supportive comments. Today the cold symptoms are still there but have lessened considerably and I was able to go to work. I have a new symptom now on Day 4. I have swollen armpit and neck glands. It’s like my body’s version of Whack-A-Mole I guess. Who knows what will pop up next? It’s not too bad. I can live with this and I’m still hanging in there. I don’t know if there’s a way to help lymph nodes drain, so I am just riding this wave.

Melinda- are you wearing antiperspirant??? It could be that toxins are trying to drain through your sweat glands. If you can avoid antiperspirants and just use deodorizer and frequent sink baths, that could help.

For the past two days, my eliminations have been mostly water, very light in color. But we obviously struck something today and eliminations were darker including quite a bit of mucous. Exactly what we are wanting to eliminate. It would not surprise me to see some movement (no pun intended) on the scale tomorrow. Isn’t it amazing that you can not eat for 4 days, but have evidence that things are still coming out?

Thanks Cathy! I love that you know so much about the MC- I did not read the book yet… just sort of jumped in. I have done a number of whole foods/ clean eating programs but never a fast like this so a lot of what is going on is new to me. I appreciate your wisdom!

I tried the salt water flush this morning…… I did it the other day no problem…. but I just couldn’t keep the salt solution down…. kept gagging and finally it all came right back up. UGH.
BUT I did have a colonic yesterday so I am thinking my system just rejected the solution as my colon is ok for now. I will attempt again tonight I hope……
Has anyone else had this experience? I am keeping up my laxative tea and have been doing 1 per day. Can we do more than 1 tea in a day?
This morning I woke with big bags under my eyes….. thinking kidney clean out???

YOU ARE DOING SO GREAT. You just keep telling your body what it’s going to do, and I love that about your posts. Yes, many people experience the heaves with the salt water. The cleaner your body gets, the more you will be able to hold it down. The laxative tea gets the persistalic movements going in the colon, but does not have the flush effect.

If you are doing the fast for more than 10 days should you stay on the laxatives?

Newbie Day #3 – I am still having just watery movements. No form at all. I did the tea last night prior to going to bed and then again this afternoon when I woke up after a nap. I will take it again prior to lying down tonight (about 0100). I think I will try the SWF tomorrow – just to see if that makes a difference. I mean, if I am not “cleansing” anything, what is the point?!? I am not working tomorrow and get use the time to truly get “cleansed”!

The lemonade is basically the “agitator”, going in and loosening all the crud from the colon walls and such. The SWF is the “rinse” cycle, which then flushes all the crud out. The people who choose not to do the SWF are prolonging their success. Laxative tea doesn’t do it. You will be helping your organs out to do the flush. You are literally “flushing the commode” of your body.

I am actually glad that I didn’t know how rotten I would feel before I started the cleanse because I’m not sure I would have attempted it. Going to the bathroom so often is inconvenient and sometimes a bit uncomfortable, but these cold symptoms are what’s making me feel miserable. On the other hand, feeling like crap keeps my mind off food…

I am so sorry. It’s just part of the process…uncomfortable as it is. I will tell you, if you ever do TMC again, it will not be this bad, because what is flushing now–will be gone. I know that’s no consolation now, but you are doing SO GOOD. Most people quit when they get where you are.

Last night I weakened my laxative tea on purpose. I didn’t want to have to get up in the night, whereas the 2 nights prior, it was “urgent”. I went to the chiropractor today for a routine visit and mentioned that mid-back soreness. He told me it was my liver processing the toxins that the cleanse was dumping into my blood. He said it would pass. Hope that helps someone else in here besides just me.

I did the SWF yesterday and already today I am feeling the benefits of it…..I got a lot of the gunk out. I am going to mix it up with a colonic here and there and I am doing the tea as well.

Does any liquid movement constitute a BM???
