Pure Water for Cleansing and Weight Loss

Pure Water is essential to life as we know it. We all know we are mostly water. People say our bodies consist of anywhere from 55% to 75% water. We all also know how important Pure Water is.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

But still we as a people are chronically dehydrated. This is true world-wide, from places where water is scare, and even in the “developed” world where access to fresh, clean and abundant water is readily available.

America Is Becoming Dehydrated

Pure Water

People in our society have replaced the drinking of water with drinks that are essentially dehydrating such as coffee, tea, soda pop and alcohol. Therefore, not only are they making their bodies more acidic, they are also causing long-term dehydration of their bodies. Because of this, 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.Amazon Image

So we know we need water. But the question of water isn’t that simple anymore. There are more kinds of water than ever, and many different claims for each. But I think most of us can agree to a principal. We should drink the purest water we can. OK, but the question is: What is Pure Water and how can we get it?

What is Pure Water?

Here are three definitions I found on Pure water

Pure water contains equal numbers of both ions, is said to be neutral” – from Wikipedia

Pure water has a low electrical conductivity, but this increases significantly with the dissolution of a small amount of ionic material such as sodium” – from Wikipedia

Purified water is water from any source that is physically processed to remove impurities. Distilled water and deionized water have been the most common forms of purified water, but water can also be purified by other processes including reverse osmosis, carbon filtration, microporous filtration, ultrafiltration, ultraviolet oxidation, or electrodialysis.” – from Wikipedia

Amazon ImageThere is a great deal of chemistry involved in the discussion regarding the quality of water, and improving the quality of water through water filters or water ionizers. I am not a scientist, nor a chemist. I will not pretend to be either. I am just a guy who is learning what he can and explaining what I understand as it relates to The Master Cleanse.

Science is always our current best guess anyway, and it is never consolidated into a common “Current Reality.” Disagreements are present everywhere, and so I feel helpless in my effort to define Pure Water. So let’s back off of the truest definition of the word “definition,” if you will.

What I really mean by Pure Water is Clean Water, Mineralized Water, or Living Water. Water that is free from chemicals, that has a pH Level of 7.0, and carries with it a naturally balance of trace minerals.

Hype and Propaganda of Pure Water Claims

This challenge of finding or making Pure Water is subject to companies and scientists being credible and being held accountable.

There are many claims flying around the world on any topic, and the subject of Pure Water is no different.

People even go so far to claim an Alkaline Water Cure. I tend to shy away from the word cure to begin with because it seems there is never any “cure” — if you define a cure as a “persistent, and complete solution.” I just don’t believe  there is EVER a CURE for ANYTHING in an evolving world. Whenever we solve something, we will always create new problems and the very problem we solved is likely to either become irrelevant, or evolve into something more complex, rendering the old solution irrelevant. This is evident in antibiotic resistant bacteria. Many of the diseases we thought we “cured” are actually gaining new ground.Amazon Image

But I digress.

So when people begin to talk about Alkaline Water Cure I begin to sense a bit of Hype and/or Propaganda. Most companies seem so consumed with sales, or so profoundly convinced of their products that subjectivity is thrown under the bus. Bold statements and claims are made. Please note that every time I make a claim it has the *Eternal Asterisk.

*the only thing I know is that I don’t know anything (if you define knowledge as an absolute, complete and eternal understanding).

Types Of Water and Water Sources

  • Tap Water: Tap water is often very good quality, except that it is often chlorinated or fluoridated. Now there are also many man-made chemicals in our water supply.
  • Bottled Water: Bottled water is really, for the most part, shameful. The quality is no better than tap water but sold at ridiculous prices. It’s bad for the environment and really something we need to change.

After we humans get our hands on it we produce many different versions of water that aren’t all created equal. Here isAmazon Image a brief explanation of the different types of water you might see on bottles for purchase.

  • Purified Water: Another way to say filtered water. Water isolated from other substances.
  • Filtered Water: Water is passed through materials such as carbon to remove substances. Filters have different sizes 0.01 microns are the size of the smallest viruses. Most robust filters are 0.02 microns. Many basic filters don’t remove nearly all contaminants.
  • Distilled Water: Distillation is the process in which water is boiled, evaporated and the vapour condensed. Stanley Burroughs calls distilled water “cooked,” or devitalized.
  • Ionized Water: Water is passed through systems to create a similar effect to what happens to water when it passes over rocks in a stream. The nature of this type of water is said to be alkalizing to the body. Most agree that an alkaline body is a healthy body.
  • Alkaline Water: Another name for Ionized water. The two terms are synonymous.
  • Kangen Water: A marketing term by a company called Enagic to brand their Water Ionizers — no better or worse that most of their competitors. Great Marketing.
  • Ozonated Water: Water that has an extra atom of oxygen, said to have healing potential.
  • Mineral Water: Water containing minerals or other dissolved substances that alter its taste or give it therapeutic value.
  • Demineralized Water: Water that has had its minerals removed through any process.
  • Deionized Water: Water that has had its minerals removed through a process called deionization.
  • Reverse Osmosis Water: A filtration system that produces much waste and acidic water.
  • Soft Water: Water that contains little or no calcium or magnesium metal. The term is usually related to hard water, which does contain significant amounts of these ions. Demineralized water is said to be soft. Acidic Water.
  • Hard Water: high mineral content — mainly calcium and magnesium ions. Alkaline Water.

Pure Water as a Cleanser

Pure Water is the most universal solvent we have. That means it will dissolve more compounds than any other fluid. This is why we have minerals in our water to begin with.

As you may have guessed, this is very important in any cleanse, but especially The Master Cleanse. The Master Cleanse is designed to break up mucous, waste and toxins. Every Master Cleanse Ingredient with the exception of Maple Syrup (whose primary function is to provide energy), was chosen to loosen and dissolve waste and toxins so that our body can either eliminate them or re-use them in a productive way.

Water is also a universal transportation medium. In the body the water carries toxins to organs to be eliminated.

Best Water for use in The Master Cleanse

Pure Water isn’t essential to The Master Cleanse, but the reason we would want Pure Water for our cleanse is the same reason we want to cleanse in the first place: Toxins. Why would we spend 2 weeks of effort, trials and tribulations to rid ourselves of toxins, only to consume them in water?

The problem is: who really knows what’s in our water? I mean, I don’t have a water tester (although I am going to get one). Do you have one?

So where do we find sources of Pure Water?  Water that is rich in vitamins and has no added viruses, bacteria or drugs?   Here is my definition of ideal water: Water that is free from chemicals, that has a pH Level of 7.0, and carries with it a naturally balance of trace minerals.

Filtered (Purified) Water

Filtered Water has had impurities removed through a variety of processes. There are many different kinds of filters ranging from devices that attach to our sink faucets, counter top water filters, and whole house water filters. The primary focus of a filter is to remove impurities such as: Parasites, Chlorine, Fluoride, Dioxins, Nitrates, Chlorine, Lead, Copper, Aluminum, Pesticides, Anti-Biotics, Prescription Drug Compounds and others.

Distilled Water

The most “effective” process of removing all substances from water is called distillation.

Distillation is the process in which water is boiled, evaporated and the vapour condensed. Stanley Burroughs calls distilled water “cooked,” or devitalized. The water is boiled, removing everything from it, including useful trace minerals and oxygen.

This type of water is not suitable for The Master Cleanse because it lacks these trace minerals. You can Revitalize your water by leaving it in a clear glass jar in the sun for 3 days (doesn’t that tell you something about the contents of light?) and by adding an appropriate amount of sea salt or trace element supplement relevant to the quantity of the water you are revitalizing.

Alkaline Water (Ionized Water)

Amazon ImageIonization is the physical process of converting a molecule into an ion by removing charged particles such as electrons or other ions. In the case of ionized water, you start with H2O and then lose a H+ and then you have an OH-, which is a natural anti-oxidant. This neutralizes free radicals and reduces damage in the body.

Alkaline Water is water that has an alkalizing effect on the body. Every cell in our body has a property described as pH, which stands for the Potential of Hydrogen. This measurement describes how acidic or how alkaline our bodies are. The range of pH is between 0 and 14.

You can measure your pH with several products. You can also measure the pH of your water, juices, foods, soups etc.

While there is much debate about the benefits that might be gained from drinking Alkaline Water, there is little debate about the disease that can arise in the body when it is chronically acidic. In part, we make our bodies more acidic or alkaline through what we consume each day by eating or absorption.

So it makes sense that we would want to consume water and foods that will have an alkalizing effect. It is thought that the best pH level for drinking water is 7.0.

The ideal water for the human body should be slightly alkaline and this requires the presence ofAmazon Image minerals like calcium, magnesium; therefore, Distilled Water is not ideal for consumption in quantity. It is also thought now that the lack of these minerals will actually pull minerals out of your food while you are cooking it in distilled water, robbing your body of the use of them when eaten.

Water Alkalizers (Water Ionizers) and Water Filters

There are machines on the market that are Water Alkalizers, (Water Ionizers), Water Filters or both. I will group them all together here, treating the ability to create alkaline water as a feature of a Water Filter.

In the very near future I will do a review of each major brand of Water Alkalizer on the market. Each manufactures a slightly different product which results in different qualities of water. Some have water filters; others don’t. Most use Electrolysis to create the Ionized Water, but new technologies are emerging all the time.

Beware of Water Alkalizer Review Sites. Many are owned by the manufacturers themselves. For example, the following two Water Alkalizer Review sites are owned by Earth Trade Water, the parent manufacturer of Life Ionizers. This is one reason why I hesitate to recommend them.

Over time my research will evolve to provide me with a better understanding of which product to endorse. For now, I will provide an overview of my Water Alkalizer Reviews here. Be sure to watch for individual reviews for each major manufacturer, their leading products, and typical product classes.

My husband and I are on day 6 of the cleanse. We’re doing great but our weight loss has seem to come to a halt. Is this normal? Are we possibly doing something wrong? We make our lemon juice fresh with each glass, and drink when were hungry. I do the the salt water flush every other day and my husband everyday. We weren’t “overweight” before the cleanse but are by no means underweight or malnourished. The first few days the weight just fell off, then around day 4, it stopped and we actually put on a few pounds. Any advice?? Thank you =)

Does smoking affect thecleanse??.. I would hate to be counter intuitive and not get any results :(

Hello all, I am on day 25 of the MC. I had planned to go to 30 maybe 40. I believe I have come down with a cold that turned into a sinus infection, and have also had a migraine now for 3 days. I have had to break down and take immitrex (migraine med) :( but the headache still stays. I have two questions: should I try and finish this out to day 30 as I realize I should not take antibiotics? or should I stop and make the transition now to the OJ in case I do end up needing an antibiotic. I would really like to finish the cleanse out, but am worried that I will feel absolutely horrible like I do now the rest of the time. Will the cleanse help the sinus infection go away?
My second question is why have I not lost any weight in over a week? I think I’m losing a very little bit of fat/inches, but the scale hasn’t changed in 8 or 9 days, and I am following the cleanse very strictly, and have read the book. I drink 6 or 7 glasses of the lemondae daily and do the senna tea 2/x day.
My main intention in doing the cleanse is because I had two major ear/head surgeries for an ear tumor in the past year, and then nearly died from a severe case of pneumonia in 4 of my lobes (Im only 39 years old). I was in the hospital for 20 days, and then relapsed again- and had a second case of pneumonia a month later- and in a different area. My point being- I have been on the STRONGEST and worst antibiotics and drugs in the past year that I felt the detox was essential. Even on day 25 my tongue is FINALLY starting to clear up, but I am really feeling awful from this headache and sore throat that I can’t get rid of. :-( Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is my 3rd day on the master cleanse and I’ve been using tap water this entire time. Is that bad?! And I’ve also been using lemons right out of the fridge. Should I keep going? What should I do?!

Ease-In Day 1 – After reading this whole page about water, I still don’t know where I’m supposed to find purified water. Am I supposed to go out and buy a water alkalizer system? The water in Texas here tastes like dirt and no matter how many times I run it through a Brita, the taste is unbearable. I have been buying Nestle purified bottle water. Is that good enough to use? Or should I not bother doing the cleanse… Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

      Bottled purified water is fine.

What I’m going to do is fill a 5 gal. jug. Where I live you can find purified water dispensers in front of a couple stores. It’s like 50 cents/gal or something. Check your local health food store as well. The one here has a machine for filling up those jugs. They also sell the jugs. You can probably find those jugs @ Home Depot etc.
